PHILOSOPHY OF LOVE!
How many of us have read
The Republic written by Plato? Before that how many of us know who is Plato? I
am certain that, now most of you will be contemplating on whether to read this
blog further or to stop it right here to minimize the damage caused to your
brain! So I have decided to make it easier for you and I will ask you a much
simpler question.
Who is Socrates?
This name certainly rings
a bell! He was a famous Greek philosopher about whom we might have heard in our
History class. Yet the tragedy is that we only know who he is and not what he
told. Philosophy is something that we always consider to be boring and beyond
that it’s unfathomable. Then why did I buy The Republic which had been written
in 380BC by the great philosopher and thinker Plato?? Of course, the answers
range from unemployment to insanity! Regardless of the reasons, I started
reading it and let me tell you that, now I know why people find philosophy
boring. I learnt it the hard way! Yet there was one sentence which actually
screamed out of the book to catch my interest.
“Then he who is a good
keeper of anything is also a good thief?”
When Socrates was
discussing about justice he made this point after a series of dialogues and
even after this sentence there are many more dialogues which followed. But this
particular sentence disturbed me a lot. Instantly one more thought struck my
mind!
“The one who loves you
the most is also the one who can hurt you the most. The one who owns your heart
is also the only one who knows how to break it.”
Once you love someone you
give that person enough power to push you into pain. Then why do you ever fall
in love when you know that you will be hurt? The answer is quite simple. Even
though he/she can break your heart, he/she won’t do it, just because that
person can’t see you in pain.
Therefore friends, the
philosophy of love is very simple -
Love is love, despite the
vulnerability and heartache which accompany it...
