What makes a woman beautiful?
She
stared hard at the picture. It was the 37th selfie that she had
taken for the day. She changed the angle of the phone and took another selfie. Once
again, she was not satisfied. Looking through all the pictures that she had
taken in the past half an hour, she chose the 13th one and uploaded
it as her profile picture on Facebook. Then began her endless wait for likes
from people she might have not even seen in years.
Sounds
familiar?
Well,
this could be an incident from anybody’s life. Of all the time she spent in looking
at herself from the lens of a 13MP camera lens, she should have tried to see
herself from the window of her heart. Within seconds, she would have realized
how beautiful she was…
Woman – the embodiment of beauty!
The
tragedy in today’s world is that one does not feel beautiful unless you receive
approval or appreciation from someone. Anyone! Somehow, the society lives with
a perception that a woman should always look well-groomed. It is no wonder that
that the global beauty care products industry is forecasted to reach 265
billion dollars by 2017. These days, men are also catching up with women and
the market is flooded with beauty products for men. Yet, we cannot deny the
fact that even today a man can just walk out of his house wearing just a pair
of old shorts and a worn out T-shirt, sporting unkempt hair. If a woman tried
the same stunt, her family might just give her up for adoption!
Why is there so much pressure on a
woman to look “beautiful”?
The
law of nature says that the female chooses the appropriate male so that the
progeny is healthy and strong. Even history has instances where there was a ‘Swayamvar’
conducted for the lady to choose the man who won her heart. But apparently, we
have become ultra-modern now, so the man gets to choose his bride and has a
freewill to reject women based on their physical appearance. The wedding
business is no way fair to men either. Men are judged based on their ability to
own a house, a car and earn a 6-figure salary per month. Yet, it is true that the power of rejection
lies undeniably with the men. Even the best of women have been put to shame for
lame reasons when they enter the marriage market.
Only
as a toddler, a girl would not be conscious of her appearance. Once she steps
out of her house, every pair of eyes start judging her for the way she has
dressed for the day. When it comes to colourful outfits, women are spoilt for
choice. It is good to have options, but to what extent? Just take a moment and
count the pairs of footwear you have or the number of earrings you have bought
in any random place. Who on earth wrote the rule that the colour of your
sandals should match the colour of your dupatta? Dear woman, open your wardrobe
and count the number of clothes that you have piled up over the years. If I ask
you the necessity for so many clothes, you will certainly give me a reason for
each one of them. There is no point in blaming women for being dress hoarders. It
is the society which has made them so desperate to look presentable at any
given point of time.
What makes a woman beautiful?
It
is not the matching clothes, numerous accessories or the hours spent in a
beauty parlour which make her beautiful. Have you ever watched her sound asleep
just before dawn when she looks her innocent best? That shy smile she gives
when you give her a simple compliment. The water droplets on her forehead when
she walks out after a shower with wet tresses of hair sticking to her delicate
cheeks. A mother when she is lovingly feeding her child. A nervous girl with
her forehead creased while awaiting her exam result. The lady who eats her
favourite chocolate while smearing her mouth and chocolate melting over her
fingers. The woman peering into her laptop with concentration burning in her
eyes. The not-in-tune song that she sings when no one is around. When she hugs
you warmly after a long, tiring day. The comfort of her lap when you needed the
most. That long deep kiss which let you taste her soul…
Her beauty is not to be seen but to
be felt…
Dear
woman, see into yourself rather than just looking into a mirror. Your
appearance might get you someone’s attention for only a couple of minutes. There
is no need to live for approval and appreciation. Always remember that you are
unique and precious. Respect yourself and believe in your ability. Eventually, this world will learn to respect you and accept your ipseity.
Woman,
you are beautiful the way you are!
beautiful write-up! :)women need to realize that their beauty lies in their immense resilience and not in how many 'likes' they get from others!
