CELEBRATING ‘WOMEN’S DAY’ WITH MEN

“Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.”
-         G D Anderson

First and the foremost, why do we need a ‘Women’s Day’ or for that matter even a ‘Men’s Day’?? Is this a day to stand on rooftops and scream about women empowerment? Or a day to list out the achievements of successful women and point out that they have achieved success despite being women? Isn’t womanhood something that needs to be celebrated every day? Then why all this fuss about women on March 8?

I think women today have left no barriers unbroken and showed everyone what they are capable of. Unfortunately somewhere down the lane we have started obsessing ourselves about women empowerment. Even simple achievement by women is so much glorified, I wonder that indirectly it is being pointed out that we are weak. I fear, it should not reach a point where men feel neglected by the society! I don’t think it would be a healthy scenario if men resent women rather than respect them or begrudge rather than adore. Women’s day is about celebrating womanhood and giving voice to those women who are bound by the shackles of this society. Yet we cannot overrule the simple fact that women empowerment would be incomplete without men. They have played a pivotal role in our lives as a father, a brother, a friend, a teacher, a husband and a son. There a few beasts among men who ill-treat women but there are millions who not only love and respect women but also worship them. In an empowered society, it is a prerequisite that both men and women work hand in hand for a better future.

Let this ‘Women’s Day’ be not only about women, but also about the men who love them. Empowerment and equality in its true sense will be achieved when we stop calling it ‘Women’s day’ or ‘Men’s day’ and start celebrating it as ‘PEOPLE’S DAY’!

HAPPY PEOPLE’S DAY!!
